MedTech Market Update

Public Market Overview – Last 12 Months

MedTech M&A Transactions (US, CA, EU) 2022 – Q3 2026*

•Strategic and PE-led M&A mix: 2025 and Q2 2026 activity reflects strategic tuck-ins, portfolio reshaping, and PE carve-outs, exemplified by Baxter’s Kidney Care divestiture.

•Valuations favor buyers: MedTech assets are trading near the bottom of historical ranges, creating a buyer-friendly environment for strategics and PE sponsors.

•Selective PE capital deployment: PE appetite remains strong for scalable, top-tier platforms, while subscale assets face funding challenges; growth equity increasingly bridges late-stage VC to exits.

•PE exploiting valuation reset: 2025 medtech deal value reached ~$73B vs. ~$41B in 2024, driven by lower small- and mid-cap valuation baselines.

•Improving outlook into 2026: Lower interest rates, strong large-cap balance sheets, and secular growth themes (AI, smart implants, procedure growth) are expected to drive higher M&A volumes.

MedTech Venture Funding (US, CA, EU) 2023 – Q3 2026*

•Capital concentrating at the top: Later-stage, high-quality medtech platforms are attracting outsized checks, while early-stage funding continues to contract.

•Late-stage valuation resilience: Despite lower deal volume, de-risked platforms continue to raise large rounds at relatively strong valuations.

•Early-stage valuation pressure: Seed and Series A financings are smaller, milestone-driven, and frequently priced below 2021–2022 levels. Capital scarcity is forcing earlier proof points on clinical data, reimbursement, and commercial pathways.

•Technology and subsector polarization: Capital is flowing to AI-enabled and clinically differentiated areas (e.g., pulsed-field ablation, structural heart, robotics, diabetes, peripheral vascular, neuromodulation), while non-AI early-stage startups face limited capital availability.

Macro Themes

  • GLP-1s are reshaping MedTech demand: Creating pressure in some diabetes and aesthetics categories while opening opportunities in monitoring, insulin delivery, and post-weight-loss procedures.

  • Procedure-driven innovation remains strong: Structural heart, advanced imaging, robotics, and integrated surgical platforms are expanding minimally invasive treatment options and improving procedural precision.

  • AI and automation are becoming core product features: Imaging and procedural platforms are increasingly using AI for measurement, visualization, workflow automation, and decision support.

  • Workflow efficiency is driving product design: Integrated platforms, disposable technologies, and radiation-reduction solutions are gaining traction by simplifying procedures and improving safety.

  • Commercial scale matters more: MedTech companies are prioritizing broader distribution, specialized sales channels, and alternative commercialization models to offset procurement and pricing pressure.

Early-Stage Financing Trends in Privates – 1H 2026

First-financing activity rebounded sharply in 1H 2026, with $801M invested across 61 MedTech deals, putting the market on pace to exceed $1.6B for the year. Investors are writing larger initial checks but remain selective, favoring well-capitalized companies with strong clinical evidence, reimbursement visibility, and clear commercialization plans. Neurology led activity with $386M, driven by AI-enabled brain-computer interface and neuromodulation platforms, while imaging, non-invasive monitoring, and respiratory also saw stronger investment. Cardiovascular remained comparatively subdued.
